Approximately every two years we hold classes for Braille Transcription. The classes are conducted by volunteers to aspiring volunteers. The lessons are taught from a course offered through the Library of Congress, National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). We help our volunteers complete the course and submit a manuscript to the Library of Congress to obtain certification as a Braille Transcriber.
The classes usually meet once a week for 9 months to study the 20 lessons in the course. We also offer virtual classes on an individual basis. This is not a quick and easy subject to learn and master. It will require time and dedication. Nevertheless, it is very rewarding and it fills a great need for more Braille Transcribers in this country. Moreover, we have a great group of men and women who are willing and eager to help you and have you join our group. If interested, please send an email to info@bmfl.org and someone will get in touch with you.
